Noises ON!

It's not often that the sound of noisy boys brings a smile to my face. But as I spend this evening catching up on laundry, I've thoroughly enjoyed the sounds resonating from the various rooms of our house. Nolan has one of his buddies over for a sleep over and they are playing so nicely with eachother. I keep hearing laughter, jokes, video games, pinball machines bells, hot wheels, and a ton of other silly sounds. I'm reminded every so often that childhood is fleeting, so I'm going to bask in the boisterous noises that fill the air. Usually, I get overwhelmed and annoyed by these sounds...but it wont be long before they are gone. I just need to remind myself of this and just relax and enjoy the noise of boys!

Nolan's Vocabulary Lesson

Yesterday, Connor and the boys were visiting my sister in law and checking out her new addition to their house. They've decided to add a bedroom and office to their home to make more space for their newly expanded family of six. So while Connor, Nick, and Nolan were checking out the new rooms, Connor mentioned that the empty rooms were very echo-y... Nolan piped up right away because he wanted to indeed test daddy's echo theory. This is where most people would spout out "Hello" to see if they would hear the word hello repeated to them in an echo-like fashion.

But not our Nolan.

He immediately said "Bosoms!" He did not get the word bosoms to echo because his brother and father were laughing hysterically at that point. Nicholas chimed in "Nolan, did you know that bosoms is another word for boobs?" The shocked look on Nolan's face was a tell tale sign that he had no idea what bosom meant. He thought it was just a funny sounding word (which it is) and would be great as an echo!

When I first heard about this incident, I laughed until I cried, but then quickly felt a sinking feeling that maybe Nolan has been spouting off "bosoms" on the school playground or maybe in library class not knowing what he was saying! Too funny!!

So next time you find yourself wanting to see if you can get an echo, try saying "bosoms" it's guaranteed to get a laugh!

Finally...The girls take over!

Okay...So maybe most of the girls in our household are of the furry four legged variety, but who cares!

We had promised the boys they could each get their own kittens after summer vacation. It's pretty much all they talked about all summer, Nick even constructed a cat house out of cardboard and tape just for his soon-to-be pet.

So about a week and a half ago we hopped in the car after school to check out the local animal shelter. As soon as we walked back to see what they had in the way of kittens, Nick and Nolan fell in love with two calico sisters. Before I knew it, we were heading home with these sweet little ladies.

Nicholas declared "I know exactly what I'm going to name mine, her name is JoAnn." I'm thinking to myself...JoAnn? Really? Is he serious? I didn't argue because it was his kitten and he'd been so excited about finally getting her, I just couldn't bare to tell him what a lack-luster, middle-aged name he'd picked out. Luckily, Connor had no qualms about telling Nick how he felt and said "JoAnn?? There is no way I'm calling a kitten JoAnn...I'll have to call her Jo instead. I know too many humans named JoAnn." Nicholas was a little taken back and didn't like the idea of us calling her Jo, so he changed his mind and named his kitten Sophie instead.

Which we ALL like!

Nolan quickly came up with the name Maggie for his kitten and she is CRAZY WILD! You have to be on guard all the time because you never know when she's going to attack. I'll be standing still in the kitchen when out of nowhere, Maggie is scaling my legs like they're must be a secret stash of catnip on my shoulder or something. She's a cutie but we all have scratches from head to toe.

Hazel LOVES her new toys...she's very patient even when they lash out at her with their paws. She lets them run and jump all over her when they are hyped up and when they finally calm down to take a nap, she'll cuddle and lick them. It's pretty sweet.

So...there, I think we're done having to buy pets for awhile. Our rule was always not to be out numbered. Four humans against one dog, two cats, and a tank ful of fish. I think we're good. Phew!

A few family shots...

Peer Pressure Wins Again...

Thanks to my dear friend, Karen, I've decided to join the blogging world again.

I gave it a whirl several months back, but the pressure to feel like I had to write funny, interesting, or insightful posts kept me from continuing.

But then I thought about why I enjoy Karen's blog so darned much. It is true that her posts are beyond entertaining and extremely well written...but most of all, it just keeps me in touch with her. I love hearing about her family and how her life is unfolding. (I also like to read the comments on her posts, which have in turn taken me to many of her friends blogs who are equally entertaining!)

So, please, bear with me here... I'm not a stellar writer by any means. I do, however, have two fantastic boys who will be a constant source of writing material. My husband, Connor, is also a great topic! Although, he may be a reason I stopped the blogging last time... He happens to be a GREAT writer, which can be a little intimidating to me and my less than perfect writing ability.

So thanks Karen, for egging me on. I'll try not to disappoint.
